Halfman of the Day – Vincent Jackson

Today’s Halfman award winner has to be Vincent Jackson.  Last night Jackson recorded his first ever three touchdown game and the first three touchdowns of the season in the Chargers 34-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.  Jackson’s effort kept the Chargers in the AFC West race by pulling them within a half game.  Jackson’s clearly proved to be the Halfman of the day.

Halfdog of the Day – Tarvaris Jackson

After Brett Favre ended his historical consecutive games started streak at 297, Tarvaris Jackson ended his own at 1.  Jackson finally got a chance to start since the arrival of Favre and promptly ended his season with a turf toe injury and a trip to the season ending injured reserved list.  Sadly enough Jackson, you have to be today’s Halfdog, but just like your starting streak, it won’t last long.

Halfdog of the Day – Sal Alosi

Sal Alosi, strength and conditioning coach for the New York Jets, has won today’s Halfdog Award in a landslide.  As you can see in the video above, Alosi stupidly tripped a Miami Dolphin player while running by on a kickoff coverage.  The Jets initially suspended Alosi for the remainder of the season, but today changed that suspension to indefinitely.  I hope someone would trip Alosi on his way to the podium to accept his Halfdog Award.

Today’s halfdog – Rey Maualuga

Rey Maualuga of the Cincinnati Bengals pleaded guilty to drunken driving Tuesday and received a suspended sentence.  Maualuga was a second round pick out of USC and had a good rookie season finishing fourth on the team in tackles.  However, when you drive drunk and crash into two parked cars and a parking meter you are going to be a halfdog nominee.

Today’s halfdog – Rex Ryan

Rex Ryan is a perfect candidate for today’s halfdog award.  Ryan, who never shys away from offcolor topics, flipped off a bunch of fans at an MMA fight in Miami.  Ryan, who apologized yesterday, originally was booed when he was shown on the big screen, which lead to the middle finger gesture.  To make it even better, Ryan said with a grin, “I’d like to thank everybody here in Miami. I know they love me, I want to just tell everybody in Miami, hey, we’re coming to beat you twice next year.”  Any form of this behavior from a NFL head coach is clearly worthy of today’s halfdog award.

McNabb a Pro Bowler?

Donavon McNabb was the first alternate at quarterback for the NFC in the Pro Bowl.  The question is, how was he the first alternate for the NFC.  I will make it know that I do not like Donavon McNabb, he has hurt the Cowboys too many times.  So, I know what you’re thinking and yes I think Tony Romo should’ve been the first alternate.

Are McNabb and Romo both on the Pro Bowl squad now, yes.  Should they be, I don’t think so.  The two best quarterbacks in the league are gonna be playing in the Super Bowl and then Brett Favre backed out because he’s old.  I think that anyone who is added as an alternate shouldn’t be considered a Pro Bowler, they can go and be a part of it, but  it shouldn’t go on their resume as a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Pro Bowl needs be more prestigious, it seems like half the league is gonna be their this weekend representing their team.  The one Pro Bowl addition that I am very pleased with is London Fletcher.  Fletcher has been a tackling machine everywhere he has played, but this year will be his first Pro Bowl appearance.  We need more players like Fletcher in the Pro Bowl and less players like Donavon McNabb that don’t merit the selection with their performance.

Today’s halfdog award nominee-Sports fans everywhere

Today’s halfdog award nominee is basically us.  I am sure you are asking why, and the reason is, is that we all have to sit and hear nothing else but the question, will Brett Favre come back next year?  We are quite sick of hearing the offseason debate, and I am sure you are as well.  The Vikings head coach Brad Childress has not put a deadline on Favre’s, we wish that he had.  Favre claims that he will not take months to decide like last year, but we all know it’s going to happen.  We have not done anything wrong in sports, but we have to listen to this debate, day after day, so we are all a version of a halfdog.

Today’s halfman award nominee-New Orleans Saints

Today’s halfman award nominee goes to the New Orleans Saints.  The Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings last night on their way to their first ever Super Bowl in franchise history.  The Saints beat the Vikings in overtime with a Garrett Hartley 40-yard field goal.  The Saints won the game 31-28.  Hartley’s season long was 38 yards.  With a first time Super Bowl apperance, the Saints will earn our halfman nomination of the day.

Today’s halfdog award nominee-Nate Kaeding

On Sunday, the San Diego Chargers’ kicker had a game to forget.  With the AFC Championship game on the line, Kaeding missed three field goals, from 36, 57, and 40 yards.  The Chargers lost 17-14 against the New York Jets, and clearly any one of those field goals would be great to have if you are San Diego.  We won’t give him too much grief over the 57 yard try, but with his team trailer by ten points and having under five minutes to play, the 40 yarder is a must have.  Having a day like that, will grant you a halfdog nomination week after week.

Today’s halfman award nominee-Gary Patterson

Today, Gary Patterson was named the AP coach of the year.  Patterson lead the TCU Horned Frogs to an undefeated season, their first Mountain West championship, and their first BCS apperance.  Most people will argue that TCU should also be in the national championship game.  TCU and Patterson are the cream of the crop this season in college football, and Patterson deserves our halfman nomination for today.
